New starter battery:
12V VARTA Silver Dynamic AGM Batteri 12V 95AH 850CCA (354x175x190/190mm)

    There is easier way to do it if you are having difficulty accessing it. remove the spare wheel. and sit down inside, remove the metal bracket and rotate it. you can easily remove the whole assembly and do the repair and put it back.

    Thanks for doing all the working out with the lights as I need to do similar in my Disco , also I'm glad I'm not the only one who had trouble with those switches, I blew a couple of fuses before I got it figured out. One other thing is that I also have an extra fuse box in the rear but I fitted mine behind the panel and cut an access hole and made a cover for it. It keeps the fuses etc out of the cabin and still allows you to add electrics with out having to take the panel out. Oh, and I'd send that battery back under warranty if I were you. Eight and a half years doesn't sound all that long to me!

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive Місяць тому

      Happy to share what I have done and learned. I still don't understand why one would need such a switch, but maybe it will come to me one day. I will see where it all will end up in the end, but easy access is the most important, and a hatch like yours is a smart solution. 👍 Fuses is there to saves us when we do stupid stuff, why I fuse everything and fuse it a bit lower than the expected maximum just to be on the safe side. 😊

Bilen er ikke helt happy når den starter opp når det er skikkelig kaldt.

    When it comes to building things , drawer systems , ect, i watch many videos to see if someone has a better solution than mine , also i usually have a metal wire i can tape any electrical wire to so i can snake it through , are you planning too buy a second gullwing panel for passenger side , i went on land rover passion site to look at gullwing interior storage box and watched the video installation sold me so yes buy the box even tho you like to access interior without having gullwing storage box stopping from access, i have decided im buying the gullwing panel and storage box the gullwing is expensive with box around 1k us another company makes on for D2 much cheaper gullwing panel just makes sense enhance the way your vehicle looks for me on portable power i use gold zero yeti 500 im planning to buy the 3000 one both can use solar to recharge battery or shore power to recharge unit, you know you can buy a dc to dc charger that uses alternator to charge batteries while you are driving but i like to carry a small generator as back up i use coleman telescope pole and use my kerosene lantern, i haven't done much on the interior of my lr3 except the mollie panels from land rover passion, with the rear seat folded down makes a nice sleeping area , really don't need a rooftop tent, i have the arb soft rooftop tent but i want a Ikamper hard shell 3.0 the price is 4 times what i paid for my lr3 , crazy for now i just use my arb , you talked about when door up on gullwing if raining interior get wet for myself no big deal , they do sell a 270 awning i only have the arb 2500x2500 good enough due to my 23 zero shower room mounted on driver side , i notice your roof rack who makes that one , i prefer front-runner rack because unlimited mounting accessories easier , i like fall & winter camping no bugs , snakes, only bears and wolves you need keep eye on if in the area i won't camp if bears are near by here in usa Americans love their guns i take my rifle, shotgun, and 10mm only for protection some people have bear spay & say lay down play dead that be hard to do when a 500. Pound is hungry or a mother bear with cubs and forget climbing a tree they climb better than humans this is why its best talk with park ranger on any dangers, yellowstone national park can be very dangerous lots of bears & wolves, i love the 11 western states for camping i want to do and Alaska road trip i live in texas to Anchorage Alaska 4000 miles each way round trip in a land rover lr3 that gets 14 miles per gallon on a 22.8 gallon tank that 386 mile range in us is 4.4 v8 that requires premium gas at 4 to 6 dollar a gallon that 5000 in round trip gas it be much cheaper to fly, but the journey is the destination. as well as being in Alaska, there is a company that has overlanding vehicles, complete everything but food to rent the vehicles are toyota Tacoma trucks rooftop tent and more yeah i know im rambling 😊

    How's that AGM battery working for you? Any problems? I always thought you needed a special charging system for those types of batteries.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive Місяць тому

      The AGM batteries are overall the better choice for most post 2000 cars. The one I'm about to replace, coming up in part 2, will have been in the car for around 7 years. I have had the car for 10 years now, and my alternator failed on me and I replaced the battery at the same time, as Erik told me that a failing alternator could kill the battery and a bad battery could kill the alternator. To answer your question, the AGM likes a bit higher voltage, typical 0.4v more than a lead acid, both in bulk, absorption and float state. Most modern smart charges support agm batteries. And the AGM batteries handles the D3's alternators charge in a good way. With outside temperatures, short vs long trips, life cycles, battery capacity and variable charging voltages from the alternator, being factors that will affect the life expectancy, the D3's charging is a small part. I tend to give the battery a maintenance charge before every long trip I go on, so around 10 times spread over the year. Are you planning to change out the battery?

    • @AveGuy1
      @AveGuy1 Місяць тому

      @LandRoverDrive wow great explanation. Yes planning to change out the battery. So maintenance charge, is that recommended? I usually just leave it up to the alternator, but was always wondering about buying a maintenance charger.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive Місяць тому

      Hey and sorry for the late reply. A agm battery is said to be maintenance free, but I recommend doing run a maintenance charge every three months with a good charger that has the correct charging setup/algorithm. Most new smart chargers handles agm so don't have to be an expensive one. I do this to make sure that the battery get's a "top off" charge, because I don't really know what the alternator is doing all the time or the state of the alternator. So this has been my rutine and as you will see in the new video released today, it seems to be the way to go... 😉

    Hi Simon, I fitted 2 similar led lights in the top tailgate about where you plan to fit yours. I also put a switch next to them, they are 9w .75a and provide plenty of light over my slide out kitchen.

      @LandRoverDrive Місяць тому

      Nice, I thought it would be a good place to put them. I have some bad experiences with poor lighting, in terms of placement, but luckily I have learned and are taking it into account this time. 😊 I’m not sure the light output or the amp draw of the lights, but it can’t be much. I love these kind of jobs, cozy jobs I call them in Norwegian.

    Hi Simon, I have literally just done the very same job on my D3 this weekend. I also have a split charge system and a leisure battery under the bonnet. It's only a 'me' thing but whenever I see an exposed battery terminal, especially a live one, I always cover them over with a cap. Just in case anything makes contact with them. Great to see the build coming on.

Saw your pictures and your build is coming along nicely! I have still a bit of catchup to do. 😊 Best, Simon

      Nice, it's the way to go I belive, and refurbishing the old one to keep as a spare is a great idea. I should probably have done the same just to test out if I could do it. My main problem as I pointed out in the video was the notching on the rear part, so could potentially start creating vibrations. But as a spare would be fine. Best from Norway, Simon. 👍

    Simon I have a jeep lover for years and almost traded my jeep wrangler for a land rover discovery ll but couldn't day of the deal , I build my vehicles into overlanding vehicles , to be honest I was on UA-cam and came across LR TIME channel working on vera lr3 so I started looking for a land rover lr3 , not sure in your country if you have copart its a auto auctions site for all types of vehicles and found a 2007 land rover lr3 chawton white clean title non running for 1100.00 us and I bought it sense then I have done a lot of upgrades for myself I its the perfect vehicle to build on and do small exterior upgrades that will change the look and keep them quessing and a conversion that never ends for and example I swap out my red lens tail lights for lr4 led it changed the tail look it really enhanced the look, I struggled if I was going to do a spare tire carrier, terrafirma sold me the instructions sucked only 2 youtube viedos one the guy paid for installation and other left out some key points so I made a couple mistakes, but still all in learning something new , the mistake I made was cutting out the swing arm mount before reconnecting the rear bumper corner back into place then use provided stencil so you won't be off center then you have to cut bigger hole , over all was extremely to install as long as you think twice cut once 😊 As you made a excellent comment drilling holes in your rover 😮 after first hole there no turning back 🤯. So I installed a snorkel , if you ever decide drilling into A pillar can be tough due to layers of metal and worrying if you going to drill into air bag , I believe it has a metal back plate facing A pillar, a snorkel will change your appearance will add more conversion, I upgraded my oem rims to black rhino arsenal rims 18" Mickey Thompson atz baja legend exp 275x65x18 , terrafirma rock sliders, a front-runner roof rack, arb awning, no light bar I choose the Hella 4in offroad lights bought 4, im still up in air on rooftop tent I want a Ikamper hard shell too expensive , man I wished I saw these gullwing window panel before I mounted a defender ladder and storage box , because I had to drill into body and modified to make them both work, as you know it's the little changes that get noticed most Buying a 2004 D2 is also a unique vehicle to build much easier than lr3 for instance soild axles front and rear, many choices to lift the vehicle the traditional headlights that makes a statement only on 03 to 04 last model the center taillights can fit 35" tires only thing it's missing is a split tail gate I bought this one also from copart 600.00 us I have a few plans upgrades on D2 much cheaper that new land rover but D2 got a bad rap on its 4.6 v8 engine having some issues and dealership charging a mint to fix the engine another youtube channel called lost cause ranch installed a 5.3 ls engine swap and if you put in search on UA-cam discovery 2 engine swap you see a title saying toyota beater it's a 2004 white discovery 2 very clean build he paid 8k sold it on bring a trailer site 45k mine is chawton white I hope I can build one this nice too I love good products like land rover passion, terrafirma, arb, front-runner brands and many new products waiting to come to life that help you build something unique and different that's reflects your personality there no reason to drive new when there's plenty of older vehicles waiting to be rediscovered keep adding good content it won't go unnoticed Nice gullwing Simon

      You have done a lot. 😅 Much more than me. And 1100US, that is cheap, would be 11000US to get a TDV6 one here, V8 would be 20000US 😅 Some nice info and great that you share your experiences, many who come on here can read the comments, specially your terrafirma swing away experience. Sad they don't have some good instructions on it. Why I tend to make my videos very thorough. 👍 LR-Time is a great channel and the work they do is so good for the Discovery owners out there. 👌 Glad you are enjoying the videos and good to hear from another passionate LR owner. Best and have a great Sunday! New video out now. 😉 Simon

    Totally awesome gullwing not sure if I do this to my lr3 only because I have molle panel on inside window but I also bought a 2004 land rover discovery ll I'm building into a overlanding build because I always liked the discovery 2 platform soild axles front and rear very easy to work on and it has that look of let's go camping, the company you bought the gullwing from good company fast shipping I bought from them a few times next you want the terrafirma swing out spare tire carrier and a snorkel, front runner roof rack there's no end anyway nice gullwing

      Hey James and reading this I’m thinking you got the LR-bug bad as I do. 😂😂 Thinking I will put up a molle panel on the other side and put my electrics on that sides D2 is awesome and I would love to get my hand on one with a TD5 and a manual. Great setup if you are doing some more hard core overlanding and off-road. 👍😊 I would love a swing away but I’m already hitting that wait limit if I put the whole family in the car. 😅 Next for me I think is to prioritize an awning with some sides. Rain and wind seems to be the biggest factors here in Norway while going overlanding. Best, Simon

    As I don't speak your language so I can't tell what the technician is doing when he firsts plugs in his tablet. Step one should be to tell the car to put the suspension in to Tight Tolerance Mode. TTM. This will stop the suspension auto correcting/compensating any changes made by the technician as he adjusts the geometry. Otherwise you will be chasing the error all day.

      Hey Dave and you are spot on. Håvar, the tech, has been doing this for years and he has owned a D3 him self for more than 10 years. Can’t recall if I got it on film what he did but he knows what he is doing. Been driving for almost two years since this was filmed and all is well. 😊 Why I love to have him as my personal mechanic at the LR workshop. We met through the Norwegian Land Rover club. Great guy who willingly shares advice and tips about my D3. 👍 Now I maybe need some new shocks in the rear, feel the rebound is getting worse and worse. 😅

    A rubber strip on the inside of the hinge should catch any water and direct it either side of the hatch. With a small table on the air rail below the window it will be a great height for cooking and eating while standing. Also good for fridge access without having a fridge slide.

      @LandRoverDrive 2 місяці тому

      Yeah, maybe make a V shape thing. 👍 Yeah, I'm thinking both of those options, lunch, fridge and also I think recovery gear for those who offroad more than I do. 😊 We will see, I will try out different things to test it out. 👍

    Hi Simon, It's looking good but it's so small. There seems to be room left, especially on the width. Why did they make it so narrow? It also looks like they could have gone a few centimeters lower and shape the gullwing door following the window angles. Anyway, nice job on the installation! Cheers!

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive 2 місяці тому

      Hey, I'm not really sure and hopefully they can come on here and give some answers around their design. Due to the form faktor, the bend to fit the discovery body, and the construction of the internals of the Discovery, there's almost nothing to go on in height. On the width, you could maybe expand it with one inch, but that's about it. I guess if you spent more money on engineering and design they could find a different solution but the gain would be very small in the end, my thoughts. 😊 And thank you, I'm happy with the result. 👍 Simon
